RUWDEC hereby invites suitably qualified young persons to apply to attend the 3rd edition of the D’GIRLS RESIDENTIAL TRAINING WORKSHOP.
What is it?: D’Girls Initiative is a leadership program targeting young people aged 14-17 and 18-25 which seeks to strengthen the capacity of young people through mentorships and training. It strives to enhance social and personal development while encouraging youth engagement and participation in community development. This creates a platform where young people can acquire employability skills, interact and discuss on issues surrounding leadership, sexual health, financial literacy, career orientation, volunteerism, community service and social entrepreneurship.
What is involved? The 3rd edition of the training shall bring together 20 young people, for intensive training and mentoring by young experts. Participants will acquire leadership skills, team spirit abilities, and involvement in a social action projects, acquire confidence and resilience and change of mindset. Issues handled will include
- Career orientation
- Sexual health
- Financial literacy
- Social entrepreneurship
- Pastry lessons (livelihood skills)
- Gender issues and more
Following the training will be
- Implementation of community/ social action projects, ministerial visits and voluntary service; where participants will be accompanies in the development and implementation of their projects for a period of two (2) months.
- Professional Development and mentorship include focused mentorship to build employability skills surrounding CV development, interview skills, and business planning etc. to run for a period of one (1) months.
- Evaluation and award of certificate ceremony.
Who should apply? Motivated young persons who fall within the age range are invited to apply. The program encourages gender equity so male applicants are also encouraged and shall constitute 20% of selectees.
What shall be expected of me? Selected applicants shall be expected to attend and effectively participate in all training sessions, carryout a project at the end of the training and/or volunteer in any governmental or non-governmental organization. All these shall be used to evaluate participants and must be completed before the award of certificates. Participants can optionally enroll in the professional development and mentorship program.
What is the deadline for applications? The latest date to receive applications shall be June 30 2015 at 4:00pm prompt. No applications shall be accepted after the above date.
How will selectees be informed? The organizers shall review applications and select participants. Participants shall receive selection notification by phone and email and shall be required to demonstrate interest to accept the offer by a deadline, without which, opportunity shall be given to candidates on the waiting list. Selectees shall receive further information about the workshop venue, date and time of commencement.
